Project background
Industrial sites often span cellular-unfriendly environments — basements, substations, heavy steel. The client wanted a hybrid network that used LoRaWAN where cellular struggled and 4G as a backhaul where possible.
Challenge
Designing a gateway architecture that used each link's strengths, handled fallback gracefully, and kept device firmware simple. Managing LoRa frequency planning and regulatory constraints across multiple regions.
Approach & solution
We built a gateway that accepts LoRa traffic locally and relays to the cloud over 4G, Ethernet, or both. Device firmware stays radio-agnostic; the gateway handles protocol translation. Fleet management tooling supports remote configuration and firmware updates across both radios.
Results & benefits
Coverage became reliable even in difficult areas where cellular alone struggled. Rollouts across new sites now follow a repeatable pattern, and fleet updates complete remotely without site visits.
